You can certainly learn through books. You can learn through videos and classes, too. That’s how you get the theory of things down.
But you also learn by doing and action, sometimes brazenly and fearlessly. That’s how you acquire the experiential side of things.
There’s no substitute for either. To be well-rounded in any skill or topic, you need to have a good practice for both, right?
And then somewhere in between all of that, there’s blogs — less formal than a book or class, but still more theory-based than actually doing something. This is where we can write in a more friendly tone, sharing thoughts on experiences we’ve had… or sometimes just listing personal opinions or theories that are still in the infancy. And if we want to get real meta with it, we can write about what someone else wrote about.
So if you’re stopping by my website, I hope you know there’s a good amount of information buried here… some of it is theory, some of it is experiential… and some of it is just conjecture. I like to think that on occasion, I’m able to put my own unique spin on topics and present them in a new light. Hopefully you find something interesting and beneficial to your learning process.
Oh, and I also hope that while you’re doing all of that, you have a little fun. I choose many of my topics because I find them to be entertaining. Maybe you do, too. After all, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
