Aladdin was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I could quote that thing from start to finish. And to this day, I still break out into one of the songs at least once every couple of weeks. Just ask Selene how often I randomly start singing “Prince Ali.”

It’s the classic story of falling in love “above your station.” And then… you know… accidentally uncovering some ancient magick that really disrupts everyone’s lives, defeating a terrible sorcerer, and then living happily ever after.

Everyone probably knows that Aladdin had three wishes, but can you remember what each wish was for? Don’t worry… I’ll tell you. His first wish was to be a prince. His second (unspoken) wish was to not drown. And his third wish, being true to his word, was to free the genie.

Could he have made better use of those? Probably. Of course, he was given a few guidelines for crafting his wishes.

  1. You can’t kill anybody
  2. You can’t make anybody fall in love with anybody else
  3. You can’t bring people back from the dead

And don’t forget this one: ixnay on the wishing for more wishes.

Those are pretty good rules — not only for genies, but also for magick in general. Allow me to translate:

  1. Don’t use magick to cause unnecessary harm
  2. Don’t use magick to violate anyone’s free will
  3. Don’t use magick to disrupt natural order

That’s it. That’s the lesson. No substitutions, exchanges, or refunds.

But since we’re on a movie theme, let me tell you about ten horror films you should watch over the next few days… to get into the spirit of things.

  • Pandorum
  • Hereditary
  • The Conjuring
  • Insidious
  • The Exorcism of Emily Rose
  • The Babadook
  • A Cure for Wellness
  • 10 Cloverfield Lane
  • The Last Exorcism
  • The Possession of Michael King

Feel free to drop a comment with your favorite horror movie.

Daily writing prompt
You have three magic genie wishes, what are you asking for?

Good morning and happy Monday, friends!

It’s almost October 31… which means that some of us will be celebrating Samhain… and tons of kids around the world will be going door to door so they can fill bags with candy.

Selene and I have had a couple Samhain celebrations so far!

On Wednesday night, we attended a lovely circle with some of our coven family to celebrate the end of the year. As part of the ritual, we all drew runes. I pulled Ansuz.

On Saturday, we were able to celebrate Samhain with the inmates… in spite of having a little extra frustrations with the prison administration. I’ll summarize the conversation we had with them:

Prison Administration: “You can only bring food for services on Samhain.”
Us: “Great, here’s our donation for Samhain.”
Prison Administration: “We’ve decided not to allow your donation this time.”
Us: “But it’s for Samhain… and you said…”
Prison Administration: “We’ve decided to allow your donation.”

Obviously, it was a bit more involved in that. They’ve been making things rather difficult for us over the past six months or so… but once we arrived, there must have been a little magick in the air or something. The staff smiled at us. They did… weird things… like nod… and say “good morning.” It was certainly out of character. I might even go so far as to say that it was a pleasant visit to prison. Go figure.

Last week, I posted the second half to my 20 magickal ways to use music article. Now there’s a long list of things you can experiment with!

Check out this rainbow I caught earlier in the week.

And this spectacular sunflower that I grew.

Also, I’ve got to add an entry to my upcoming “important dates” list…

I’ve been asked to come back and play more music, so I’m very excited for that!

Oh, and we voted.

In other news… I noticed that there is a new upcoming Dune HBO series. I’m really looking forward to that. Actually, there’s quite a few things that came out recently that I was really looking forward to, like Venom, Joker, and the new Alien film — but we haven’t gotten around to seeing them yet.

Well… that’s all for now! But as always… stay tuned for more soon!
