What kid hasn’t sat around and daydreamed about having some sort of superhuman ability? I can definitely remember some debates amongst my childhood friends as to which power would be the best. The top contenders were usually:
- Strength
- Speed
- Invisibility
- Teleportation
- Flight
- Telekinesis
Personally, I always leaned toward abilities of the mind like telekinesis or being psychic.
But what about something a bit more realistic? What are some real superhuman abilities?
Like speed reading, for instance. I think that would be really useful. The only thing “super” about my natural pace of reading books is that it’s super slow. If I could read quickly and retain the information, I’d be able to learn so much more in life… and as a result, I’d be able to write more, too!
Apparently there are people who claim they can read up to 20,000 words per minute. Many of the books on my shelf have around 100,000 words. That means in a fifteen minute period, you’d be able to get through three entire books. Do that for a year and you’ve read 1000 books. You’d start to run out of interesting reading material pretty soon! Honestly, I’m not sure if I fully believe those claims, but it’s still pretty neat.
On a different note, I do believe that I hear slightly differently than most people. I’m able to identify melodies, pick out individual instruments, and hone in on certain frequency ranges in a recording. It’s useful for audio production, mixing, and mastering… but it’s much more of a developed skill rather than something innately superhuman.
Do you have any abilities that others may consider superhuman?
Good morning and happy Monday, friends!
Selene and I are back from Phoenix Phestival this weekend at Wekiwa River State Park in Apopka, FL.
Here we are in the middle of the woods!

Coming back has been a little jarring, honestly. It was so tranquil and peaceful. We tried to smooth the transition by having a little stop in Disney Springs, grabbing some food, and topping everything off while a Dole Whip.

Those things are the BEST.
Earlier in the week, I got my kyphi batch curing. Here are the coated balls all lined neatly up before I placed them in a terra cotta pot, where they will hang out for another 6-8 weeks.

I also wrote a bit more about Alchemy. For whatever reason, my article on the Tria Prima has been receiving a lot of referrals from Google… so I decided to continue the topic by writing about the Prima Materia.
Eventually, I’d like to cover several other alchemy-related topics here. But for this week, you can expect to hear more about our adventures at Phoenix in a festival recap post. It was a really cool time!
That’s all for now. I’m just going to be adjusting back to mundane things for a while. But stay tuned for more soon!
