Jamie Della is a healer, priestess, Xicana witch, and the author of nine books, including The Book of Spells, A Box of Magick, and The Wicca Cookbook.

In this episode, we talk about healing modalities, constellations, the role of mentorship in the craft, and more!

As always, here are the written highlights for this episode… but like, come on man, you. should really watch the video, too.

Background

When I asked Jamie about her background, she basically said that she was born a witch — it’s just a part of who she is.

But she certainly learned a lot from her grandmothers. Although her maternal grandmother sadly passed away the month before she was born, she feels like she whispered secrets to her — and that was kind of her introduction to communicating beyond the veil. Her other grandmother was a psychic and tarot reader, so the air of mysticism and spirituality was always around her.

Jamie says she officially found the magickal path at a witchy shop named Eye of the Cat in Long Beach, CA. (I checked, looks like they’ve been there since 1974) During the 80’s, she took some Wicca 101 classes at the store and felt like all of the teachings just made sense.

Healing

Most of Jamie’s magick, she says, is based on healing and creating empowerment.

Jamie is a Reiki healer, a SoulCollage facilitator, a domestic violence and sexual assault advocate, and a massage therapist. And while all of those things are valuable and interesting in their own right, what really fascinated me was that she picks up on people’s emotions and feelings through physical touch — that could certainly be a struggle for your average massage therapist!

I asked her if it was ever overwhelming to pick up on people’s energy like that…

She said, “Of course!”

When it gets too intense, she has some tricks up her sleeve to rebalance, like grabbing her favorite grounding crystals or spraying rosewater.

Over the course of the episode, we chatted quite a bit about these different methods of healing, but you can watch if you want the full scoop.

Future Workshops

Later this year, Jamie will be presenting a couple of workshops at Summer Magick Fest 2025.

The Cosmic Family of Constellations.  How do the five constellations that circumnavigate Polaris, our North Star influence our lives? These constellations (Ursa Major, Ursa Minor, Draco, Cassiopeia, and Cepheus) represent five universally known archetypes of the Mother, Child, Dragon, Queen, and King. Our first relationship is with our Mother. The Dragon can symbolize power and luck or shadow work and protects our Inner Child. The Divine Female and Divine Male are in a constant state of flux as we evolve to find new pathways to harmonize. This workshop will discuss the mythology of these archetypes, with a fun quiz to determine which constellation guides your life.

Healing The Mother Wound Healing the Mother Wound is a workshop that addresses the many ways that spiritual pain can arise. The focus will be placed on altering your perception so that you can move the needle on the deeply held associations with the Mother Wound. It will include an Inner Child meditation, lunations for transforming pain carried through your matriarchal line, the “Bury the Hatchet” ritual Jamie created with her mother for her recent book, A Box of Magick, and how the lessons from the Four of Cups can help you on this healing journey.

When I asked her what she hoped people got out of her workshops, one of the things she mentioned was helping people realize that we can always look to the cycles of nature for information on solving some of our deeper struggles in life.

Mentorship in the Craft

When I first started getting into witchcraft, the internet was a big thing — social media was becoming popular, YouTube was in its infancy, and if you really wanted to find out about a random topic, you could probably find a message board about it somewhere. And although all of those things were nowhere near the level where they are today, information was still available. I joined a forum (actually, I paid for access) and read through countless threads on reiki, crystals, pendulums, and other new age favorites. There was no video chat, of course, but we would celebrate the sabbats together in chat rooms. And for the first year, I was assigned a “guide” — someone who had been around for a while — and we would correspond through email as I completed various assignments.

Jamie, however, tells a different story — a time where information was disseminated through physical packets of paper that were photocopied, stapled, and mailed out to people.

To say something that is glaringly obvious: things have obviously changed since then. We’ve got instant access to all the information that we could ever want, right? And it’s all right at our fingertips.

But one thing that Jamie mentioned that seems to be lacking in several areas of various magickal practices is a personal connection — someone to show you how to apply the information. A mentor.

So that’s why she started her own one-to-one mentorship program. You can find more details on her website, which you can find a little further down the page.

Jamie’s Books

I may have mentioned this earlier, but Jamie has written nine books! Here is a small selection of three for you to check out:

Finding Jamie Online

You can find Jamie online in these places:

And in person at these festivals:

Shorts

If you’ve only got a minute and want to check out some of this stuff, definitely watch some of these short videos.

Starting Your Morning with Music…

Jamie begins each morning by listening to empowering music that is full of positive affirmations. She talked to me about wanting to start the day with the right type of energy… and that this was better for her than waking up and going straight to a phone or computer. And I just thought… man… I’m such a grump in the mornings, maybe I need some more positive affirmations, too!

There’s other ways that she uses sound in her personal practice, including sound therapy, but you’ll have to listen to that in her own words. Go watch the video!

Conclusions

I had a great time meeting Jamie Della and getting to know her a little bit better over the course of this conversation. And I’m looking forward to officially meeting her in person later this year at Summer Magick Fest.

As always, these highlights are no substitute for the full episodes. So run on over to my YouTube channel and give it a watch when you have a moment. Oh, and while you’re over there… please make sure you’re subscribed, too. When you subscribe, it tells the gods of the internet that at least someone finds my videos interesting… and it increases the likelihood that the almighty algorithm will help me connect to a new person. Thus, you make the internet a better place. And I appreciate you.

PS – You can get your tickets to Summer Magick Fest 2025 by going to their website and clicking the “register” button. You won’t regret it! It’ll be taking place from June 12 – 15. Hope to see you there!

Oh hey, one more thing — and really, it’s just a minor detail. But I have to tell you about it nonetheless. Some of the links used on this page are Amazon affiliate links. If you use those to make a purchase, like buying a book or something, Amazon will pay me an ever-so-tiny commission. Anyway, carry on. Go buy your Summer Magick tickets and stuff after you finish buying all those books.
