I’ve had a number of teachers throughout my life. As I think back, many (if not most of them, honestly) were good teachers. But a very small number were great.
What makes for greatness in teaching? I think it comes down to this overly-simplified statement: Good teachers excite, but great teachers inspire.
A good teacher can wake you up for a moment.
They break you out of the mundanity of the facts that they have to present. Learning isn’t always exciting — sometimes facts by themselves can feel rather dry, but a good teacher presents things in such a way that the feel exciting and alive.
They pretty much have to do that because otherwise you won’t retain any of the information. Haven’t we all had an experience where we’ve sat through a boring class taught by a boring teacher… and can’t even recall what the class was about?
But a great teacher goes a step further. They inspire you to learn on your own. They leverage their passion to give you a lasting interest. When you leave their classroom, you’re inspired to explore beyond the lesson.
A great teacher awakens something in you. It’s long-term inspiration.
We owe these folks a debt of gratitude. Can you think of someone who has made a difference like this in your life? Tell them thank you!
Good morning and happy Monday, friends!
Holy smokes, batman, it’s the end of June already.
Here’s what’s new this week:
- New Article: Highlights from Anthony Rella’s interview
- New Book Review: The Four Agreements
I’m really enjoying doing these book reviews, by the way. It gives me a chance to revisit old books that I’ve really enjoyed over the years and rediscover the things that I enjoyed so much about them. Of course, not all of them are old books… some I just recently read. Either way, I think we can all agree: I enjoy talking about books.
I released Jason Mankey’s new episode of M3, where he talks all about his most recent book, High Priest. If you haven’t seen that yet, then I’ll just tell you: It’s a fantastic biography of Raymond Buckland. I think you’ll find it both informative and entertaining… because I sure did!
I made a fun little video about tuning forks and binaural beats.
Christiana Gaudet and I continued our Wyrd Wednesday series. This time we compared some bindrunes of our own creation! I might make a short video about the topic later this week.
I had an awesome chat with Kamden Cornell, author of The Tameless Path. They were an absolute wealth of information on a topic that is often glossed over: weeds. You can expect to see the footage up in Patreon in about a day or two… and then I’ll have a new episode of M3 on YouTube a few weeks after that!
On Friday evening, Selene and I taught a coven class on the basics of magick. It’s actually kind of a fun lesson to go over… we start talking about magickal correspondences and magickal timing.
Aside from random content, books, videos, and interviews… this week was also filled with delicious food. Selene and I managed to find the time to go out a couple times and… well, I’m obviously going to share some food pictures with you.
First up, a small flock of happy hour appetizers that, when combined, create an entire meal.

And then another day we went out for a fancy dinner date.

I had a Kona-crusted filet mignon. The flavors were fascinating.
Oh and there was dessert, too… I mean, obviously.

Yep, it’s all food pictures this week. Deal with it.
I’ve got a bunch of awesome interviews that I’m lining up for later this year. I can’t wait to share some of that with you soon!
But that’s all for now! Stay tuned for more soon!
