I can’t think of curiosity without thinking about Loki.

And I’m talking about our cat, of course… and not the god. But they both share a few traits — namely, being a trickster and having a love of mischief in general.

I have hundreds of pictures of Loki getting in boxes. Every box we ever bring into the house is his. It doesn’t matter how small it is or if it’s already full of stuff or not… he will try to find out what’s inside of it and then fit himself in there. A few times he’s actually managed to somehow close the lid and take a nap.

He’s also quite fond of packing tape. Honestly, I think it’s something in the glue that he can smell. I’ll frequently hear strange noises coming from across the room. When I go to investigate, I’ll find that Loki is systematically tearing the packing tape off of boxes.

What’s the appeal? Perhaps I’ll never know.

  1. I have a black cat named Salem. He likes to hide in boxes and then jump out and scare his sister!

    1. Loki does that, too! He’s always waiting somewhere to jump out onto Freya.

  2. Same thing with a few of our cats. Something about the packing tape draws four of the stuff to it for some reason.

    1. Ah, funny to hear! I actually thought it was kinda just a weird Loki thing. Maybe our cats should be friends!

      1. For all we know, they might be when they (or we) sleep. 😉

You might want to try the painter’s taped “box” thing with Loki. Some cats treat rectangles and squares the same as boxes when use tape to create them on the floor. If you try it, let me know 🙂

      2. Bahahaha that is hilarious! A few years ago, I tried just putting a blank piece of paper on the floor and he would immediately go lay on it. I assumed it was due to the texture of paper and not to the shape… but now I’ve curious, so perhaps I will film this experiment in the future.

      3. Good luck with it. Mine didn’t fall for it, even the extreme box-sitter of the family, but it may work on Loki.
