Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always been able to take pleasure in my work… as long as that work involves creating something in some way. I’ll attribute some of that to my Aries sun, as one of its quintessential characteristics is that creative force. I mean, it does start the entire Zodiac series after all.
I’ve done many mundane and repetitive tasks over the years. Sometimes they droll on and on and it’s almost impossible to find the light.
I’ve packed boxes — I mean, endless amounts of boxes.
No, no. I’m not packing. I’m creating a shipment.
I’ve moved files around on servers. Thousands of them.
No, no. I’m creating a better organizational system.
I’ve edited metadata for an endless amount of digital products.
No, no. I’m creating an efficient shopping experience.
It’s a useful perspective, I must say. It lets me care about things that would otherwise seem deathly boring.
But I’m probably at my best when the task at hand revolves around pure creativity, like music or writing. Give me a random object that resonates and in a few minutes you’ll probably hear me tapping out a rhythm on it. Play an ambient noise in the background and I’ll use it as a drone and start harmonizing and singing. Better yet, give me an instrument. Give me a guitar. I can’t help it. The universe is very musical.
But sometimes I don’t know when to stop. And I’ve been known to burn out. I’m actually amazed that I’ve been consistent with posting so frequently.
