I answer a lot of stupid prompts here. I mean, y’all get my email blasts every week, so you already know that. Sometimes I indulge and sometimes I refuse.

Today I refuse. But don’t worry, I’ll tell you why.

After my high school graduation, my school had an all-night party for the senior class. They had some mock casino games set up in a local rec center along with some other more athletic activities like squash and basketball. It was silly, but it was fun. Once all that way over, my friend and I went out for a very tired breakfast.

As we sat and waited for our pancakes, we mused about a future of seemingly endless possibilities.

“What do you want to have done by the time you’re 30?” one of us asked the other — I honestly don’t remember if it was him or me. But that question lead to another… and then another.

Eventually, we each had an entire list of requirements for our future selves.

We thought it was so great that we wrote it down. We took our lists back home, sealed them in envelopes, and addressed them to our future selves.

Of course, in the stupor of youth, I misplaced my great list. And I’m glad I did.

I can pretty much guarantee you that nothing I care about today was on it. What can I say? I was a dumb kid. And I was pretty much incapable of imagining how cool life could be in genuine ways. To put it bluntly, I don’t care what my 18-year-old self would have thought about anything.

A similar effect might be witnessed when I turn 100. If I am lucky enough to acquire that many years, I think I’d rather just enjoy the time I have instead of hearing from my younger self.

Good morning and happy Monday, friends!

Selene and I really appreciate all of the kind wishes that everyone sent our way. It was our 4th wedding anniversary on March 7. Here are our happy faces at dinner.

Yes, I am blessed to be married to such an awesome woman.

Lots of projects this past week!

First, we had to make some progress on our next Kyphi batch, so there were quite a few errands to make sure we obtained all the necessary ingredients. Kyphi takes an almost absurd amount of ingredients, by the way, and you need to process them all by hand the old fashioned way — with a mortar and pestle. I only have a couple of pictures to share so far, but I’ll probably have more with next week’s update.

Botanica Obscura was all weekend long. I gave my workshop on Saturday afternoon about alchemy, spagyrics, and fluid condensers. For the rest of the weekend, I popped in and out of other people’s classes. On Saturday night, there was a “Plant People Discussion Group” that ran until midnight. This is a group of people you can really tell loves plants and has so much knowledge to share. It was fun to be a part of it.

We were supposed to attend a misa on Saturday night, but it got canceled. That’s a bummer, yes, but it did give me a little bit more time to hang out virtually at Botanica Obscura.

Earlier in the week, I had a nice chat with Josh Yates — this will be another episode for Season 3 later on. I’ll be posting the raw interview footage on Patreon in a day or two as an early access benefit. This month has been rapid fire with interviews!

I think you can expect Emily Guenther’s episode to come out later this week, too! So look forward to that.

I wrote a short article that introduces magickal herbs. If you’re just getting started with the topic, I think you’ll find it useful.

I have also been trying my hand at creating a divination set out of the Greek alphabet. It’s going pretty well so far. I’m making two sets and I’m a about 2/3 finished with both.

And just for fun, I found this giant stuffed peep at Walmart

Next up on the horizon… and coming very soon… is Phoenix Festival, where I’ll be playing a concert and giving a workshop on music. Selene will also be giving a workshop — a cacao ceremony!

That’s all for now… but stay tuned for more soon!

  1. I’ve been blessed to know 2 people who reached 100. one of them was sharp as a tack the other not so much. I am more than half way there so I think a lot about this. Keep hanging around young people. Carpe the crap put of every day. Follow your passions, it’s better to die with memories than a large bank account. Embrace failure – you either win or learn and if you have a great story to tell – that is the goal. Two of my friends gave up the land life, live on a sail boat and in their free time volunteer as crew on a replica of a Spanish ship and sail all over the world as crew on this ship. Stability is mostly overrated.

you guys are out there making a difference, and I’ve no doubt that 100 year old you will not be very different than the you of today, but maybe less constraints.

To my hundred year old self – I say tell your story teach them what is possible. Tell your story Aeric, compile your writing and light the way for the younger ones.
