It’s hard to balance rest with productivity. Never fear, for I have a very simple solution for you!
If you schedule rest, then you will have accomplished something by resting.
Good morning and happy Monday, friends!
- New Post: Not Every Piece is a Masterpiece
I know it’s just in my head, but for most of this week, it felt like I accomplished absolutely nothing. It was like being inside some kind of time warp black hole thing. Most mornings I followed the exact same procedure: wake up at the same time, sit down in the same spot, and read my manuscript. And then the day was over. Rinse and repeat.
As a break to the monotony, however, I can attest that fall has now officially started. And no, no, it wasn’t because of the equinox. It was because Starbucks finally re-released my favorite beverage: the Apple Crisp Macchiato.

When coupled with an apple croissant, I am filled with the warm feeling of fall.
Our family of ducks visited a few times. They will all run to greet me now. If you’ve never been greeted by a family of ducks, well… you’re missing out on a unique feeling of specialness.
Here are the three babies trying to share a tiny pool of water that filled up a crack in the asphalt. Momma Duck gives a watchful, slightly judgmental eye.

On Saturday, Selene and I went to the Oktoberfest celebration that was being held at the American German Club in Lantana. I wasn’t really sure what to expect, and admittedly had my doubts, but it was fun! There was food, music, and vending.
There were also some loud, intoxicated people… but we were able to mostly steer clear of them.

We’ll start with the food.

On the left is a bratwurst. In the middle is a currywurst. And on the right are some potato pancakes hidden slightly by napkins and utensils.
We walked around the vending for a little while. There were lots of interesting clothes and jewelry. Found a necklace that looked like a set of horns.

And of course there were candles for every occasion.

Inside one of the buildings, there was a polka band playing.

At some point, there was a break in the music so that a stein-holding contest could take place. People had to hold a filled stein straight out at arms length for as long as they could. Spilling any liquid, tipping the stein, or bending an elbow resulted in a loss. The winner won… well, they won a stein.
There was another band playing outside. I didn’t get a shot of them, but I did take a picture of their accordion.

Accordions are some of their weirdest instruments ever conceived.
And to conclude the festivities, we got a pretzel. Actually, two pretzels.

You can’t really choose between a cinnamon-sugar pretzel and a cheese pretzel, so we obviously had to get both.
At some point earlier in the week, I received a new shipment of blank antler slices. I’m going to start making some rune sets soon… when time permits.
And you’ve probably heard me mention that I’ve started a new book, right? I haven’t really discussed any of the details yet, but I’ll be sharing some more info later this week during Wyrd Wednesday. Christiana Gaudet and I are returning after a short break for a new episode!
Has anyone seen the new Tron movie yet? I feel like the first was not very well received, but I really enjoyed it… looking forward to seeing the second.
I think that’s about all for now. I’ve got… deadlines and stuff.
Stay tuned for more soon!
