Ivo Dominguez Jr. & The Witch’s Sun Sign Series

Written by:

Ivo Dominguez, Jr. has co-authored a new book series called “The Witch’s Sun Sign.” There are separate books for each zodiac sign and they are all filled with astrological info, correspondences, spells, rituals, and even practical advice. In this interview, Ivo explains how he found his path, what it was like to write alongside more than 100 different authors, and how he uses sound in his magickal practice.

Music, Myth & Magick – Ep. 1 – Ivo Dominguez, Jr. & The Witch’s Sun Sign Series, premiers on 7/27/2023 at 9:00am EST

If you’re not yet familiar with Ivo Dominguez, Jr., he’s a witch, an author, and an elder of the Assembly of the Sacred Wheel.

Ivo formed relationships with a variety of practitioners while running a bookstore study group in the 1980s. This group eventually formed into a coven and became the beginnings of the Assembly of the Sacred Wheel. He has personally been teaching since 1982.

Did I mention he’s also an astrologer? He’s got tons of knowledge to share on the topic and always has a way of making complicated things feel understandable.

The Witch’s Sun Sign Series

The Witch’s Sun Sign series gives each zodiac sign their own dedicated book. Ivo himself is a Sagittarius, but he chose co-authors that matched each individual book’s sign.

Since Aries starts the wheel of the zodiac, Aries Witch kicks off the book series. That also happens to be my sign, so I was fortunate enough to have read the book prior to this interview. The other authors for Aries Witch include Diotima Mantineia, Danielle Blackwood, Michael Cabrera, Cat Castells, Jack Chanek, Lilith Dorsey, Crow Walker, Dawn Aurora Hunt, and Sandra Kynes. If you’d like to see what authors might have worked on your sign’s book, you can check out the links below.

At the time of writing this article, only the first two books are available. Most of the rest are listed as Pre-Order, but the final three zodiac signs are planned for release Summer of 2024.

Aries Witch

“If you do anything that’s woo-woo, then this book probably has some use for you.” This has got to be my favorite quote from the entire interview.

Aries Witch by Ivo Dominguez, Jr.

Aries Witch opens with a short introduction, where Ivo explains who he is and what you can hope to get out of the book. After that, you’ll learn how your sun sign powers your magick. I always love throwing planetary and zodiacal correspondences into my rituals, but I’ve never really viewed my natal chart as something that affects my particular “flavor” of magick. This vantage point is a truly fascinating way to look at astrology. It makes it so practical!

I have to say that I don’t always identify with the traits ascribed to my sun sign, but the “Aries Patterns” that Ivo listed in the book make me feel really called out. Even if you don’t feel like you are a quintessential version of your sign, it’s still helpful to know what forces are within you and what might be working for you or against you.

With that said, there were a couple of things that stuck in my head.

"If you don't feel passionate about something, it is not your work nor your calling. If there is something tedious you must do to reach your goals, view it as a challenge to surmount, and you will have the drive you need."

-Aries Witch by Ivo Dominguez, Jr.

Reading the above quote had a pretty profound impact on me. I feel passionate about what I’m doing right now, but I need reminders that it’s my calling… because…

"Aries need to be reassured by others..."

Thank you, Ivo, for simultaneously calling me out and reassuring me.

As you continue through the book, you’ll find spells, rituals, advice, correspondences, stories, and even recipes for oil, incense, and food.

There is a short section for each moon sign and rising sign. If you know this basic information from your birth chart, you can learn even more about how your Aries energy is focused.

If you don’t have your birth chart, you can obtain one from Astrodienst or Astrolabe.

Since Selene is a Taurus, she has Taurus Witch. I haven’t finished it yet, but I can say that it follows the same general format; however, the content is obviously different.

How do you use sound or music in your practice?

Ivo states that sound and chanting are very important to him and to most of the covens within the Assembly of the Sacred Wheel.

Side note: Ivo has authored a ton of chants. You can find many of them on his website. As a bonus, there’s pathworkings available on that page, too.

He also mentions using sound as a diagnostic tool. This is a technique I’ll be writing about in the future, but for now, you should really just make sure you listen to this section of the interview.

Conclusions

I hope you enjoyed the interview. I personally had a lot of fun talking with Ivo and I learned quite a bit. What I’ve read of the new series is excellent. I might just read all twelve books, but I’m definitely also going to get a copy of Practical Astrology for Witches and Pagans.

Other than that, stay tuned and I’ll be bringing in more guests to tell us all about interesting things!
